The Cathedral of Malaga

The Cathedral of La Encarnacion. This is the highest cathedral of Andalusia and a beautiful masterpiece. The Cathedral was built on the ruins of the old mosque and took 250 years to build. Construction started in 1528 and finished in 1782.

It has 3 different styles of architecture: gothic, renaissance and baroque. The inside of the cathedral is full of baroque.

The cathedral is nicknamed the Manquita. This means in English “the one armed-lady” as it only has one tower only. Something unique about the Cathedral is that the south tower is unfinished. People tell that is because the Spanish government used the money to finance the United States colonies during their fight against the British during the war of independence. (Well.. that what they say!)

If you are interested, you can take a tour of the inside of the cathedral as well as the rooftop.

You can go inside, and you will get an audio-guided tour while you walk thought the cathedral and you can see the beautiful chapels while meanwhile an explanation is given through the audio.

The tour during the day is very impressive but you can also do this tour by night! You can even go up to the roof and the beautiful views and learn more about the history of the cathedral.

The prices for adults are 6 euro and for kids, it is 3 euros.
The cathedral is usually open from 10:00 till 20:00 but for the actual times and tickets and check the website. click here.
