Monte-San-Anton

Mountain and city

Posted by Pablo & Ivan

This morning we headed to Ebike Málaga with the intention of doing a route that combines cycling and mountain biking, but without straying too far from the city.
At Ebike Málaga, they recommended a very interesting route: climbing Mount San Antón, a mountain in Málaga, an hour away from the shop, which requires climbing Pinares, a residential area of houses among pine trees with beautiful views of Málaga.
We left the shop and joined the bike lane, crossing in front of Calle Larios and the town hall, among other representative places in Málaga.

We took the promenade and stopped in front of the Miramar Hotel, a 5-star hotel located in the Malagueta neighborhood, in an emblematic building in Malaga that has had different functions throughout its history, such as housing the Malaga courthouses, among others.
After that, we passed through Pedregalejo, one of the city's most representative fishing neighborhoods, where we bought some water for the climb, which we knew would be steep.
The bike ride up took about 45 minutes. It is long and quite steep, but with electric bikes we made it up without any problems or too much effort, until we reached the point where we had to leave the bikes and walk up the mountain.
The climb allows you to see much of the city of Málaga. It is a very pleasant mountain walk, but without any difficulty. Once at the top, we found several groups making their way up to the cross on Mount San Antón. We marveled at the views from there and rested for a while before getting on our bikes and beginning our descent.

The total route took about three hours, including stops and breaks, so we enjoyed a little more time on our bikes until we reached the Cala del Moral area, where we were able to ride through caves very close to the coast.
When we arrived, we were treated very kindly and given recommendations for future routes. We'll definitely be back!
