Fashion and Termica
This week, we visited the Route of Automobiles, Fashion and Culture, a unique experience in the west of Málaga that combines two surprising worlds: classic cars and haute couture at the Automobile and Fashion Museum, along with contemporary art, exhibitions and workshops at La Térmica.
It is a journey where history, design and innovation come together, and we are delighted to share our experience with you!
The route is very easy to explore by electric bike. Starting from the E-bike Málaga shop, head west along the coast and follow the bike path. In just 25 minutes of relaxed pedaling, you’ll arrive at the entrance of these extraordinary cultural spaces.
What to See Along the Way
The journey is more than just transportation: it’s an experience in itself. As you pedal west, you’ll pass through the vibrant neighborhood of Huelin, a historically working-class area that is now full of life and charm.
Notice the iconic chimneys rising above the neighborhood, remnants of Málaga’s industrial past when the city was a hub of innovation and production. These structures offer a striking contrast with the modern seaside atmosphere and stand as testimony to the city’s rich history.
While in Huelin, consider stopping at Huelin Park, a charming green space where locals gather to relax and enjoy the outdoors. It’s an ideal spot for a short break to soak in the authentic atmosphere of this lovely district.
Continuing along the promenade, you’ll find numerous chiringuitos by the beach where you can savor some espetos: freshly grilled sardines, a local delicacy perfect for a quick seaside snack. The combination of the salty breeze and the taste of espetos is an essential part of the Málaga experience.
La Térmica: A Contemporary Cultural Center
Before reaching the museum, you’ll pass by La Térmica, a cultural center renowned for its dynamic exhibitions, concerts, and workshops.
This contemporary space is a hub of artistic expression, with displays of modern and emerging art, cultural events, and interactive workshops.
Whether you are interested in photography, painting, literature, or music, there is always something engaging to discover here.
In addition, it hosts a special program for children, La Térmica Mini, with creative workshops, technology courses, and interactive activities such as programming and video game design, making it an ideal stop for families.
If you enjoy creativity, La Térmica offers a wide range of workshops, from painting and sculpture to digital media and creative writing, many of them tailored for beginners.
It also organizes film screenings, concerts, and cultural talks, so there is always something new to explore. Check its schedule to see which events coincide with your visit.
What to Expect at the Automobile and Fashion Museum
After this stop, just 4 minutes away, you’ll find the Automobile and Fashion Museum, located in a former tobacco factory, with over 6,000 square meters of exhibition space.
Its collection includes more than 90 classic cars and over 200 fashion pieces, each with its own story.
Classic Cars: From luxurious Rolls-Royces to elegant Bugattis, you’ll find an impressive collection of vehicles dating from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, all meticulously restored.
Haute Couture: Discover pieces by iconic designers such as Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. The collection spans decades of evolving style and design, creating a unique dialogue between fashion and automobiles.
Thematic Exhibitions: Each room has its own theme, such as Art Déco, the Belle Époque, and Hollywood Glamour. These immersive displays transport you to different eras and celebrate creativity and craftsmanship.
