Discovering Málaga
We heard about a magic forest in Málaga and were immediately curious. We took our e-bikes and hit the road towards Monte Victoria. It was a 20-minute ride from the store. We expected the forest to be quiet and calm, but it was even more than that. This is not an ordinary hill, it’s more like an open-air museum where you can find different statues made out of wood from cut trees.
The person who created these beautiful pieces of art is named Manuel Ledesma. He is a local artist who transformed trunks from chopped-down trees into different kinds of castles and religious buildings. It’s not an official museum, he created it for fun and didn’t expect people to start visiting the place.
That’s why you don’t have to buy a ticket to enter; it’s a public space in the middle of nature.
When we arrived, we saw the “Monte Mágico” sign, and on our left we could see the first sculptures in a perfect line. As we continued riding into the woods, the pieces of art were more spread out along the way. They were different sizes and very detailed, you could tell they were handcrafted. Some had crosses, others had different kinds of decorations, and some even looked like castles!
We reached an open space where there were benches and an area for kids to play in nature. We went on a Monday morning, so the place was really peaceful and quiet. Still, there were some people walking their dogs and relaxing. We were amazed to find such a quiet place in the middle of a busy city, a place where you can take a break from work or your routine.
You may wonder how to get there. For us, the best way was by e-bike or a regular bike. You just have to follow the Victoria road until you reach the Victoria Sanctuary, and you’ll find the entrance to this magic forest just behind it. We were really surprised by how many sculptures there were and how peaceful it was. We will definitely come back again, next time with some snacks or a nice book.
