Fashion Day

On wheels

Posted by Marina, Pablito, Senne

This week, we visited the Car, Fashion, and Culture Route, a unique experience in western Málaga that combines two surprising worlds: classic cars and haute couture at the Automotive and Fashion Museum, along with contemporary art, exhibitions, and workshops at La Térmica. It’s a journey where history, design, and innovation come together, and we’re excited to share our experience with you!

The route is very easy to navigate on an electric bike. Starting from the E-bike Málaga shop, head west along the coast and follow the bike lane. In just 25 minutes of relaxed pedaling, you’ll arrive at the entrance of these extraordinary cultural spaces.

What to See Along the Way?

The journey is more than just a trip: it’s an experience in itself. As you pedal westward, you’ll pass through the vibrant Huelin neighborhood, a historically working-class area now full of life and charm. Notice the iconic chimneys rising over the neighborhood, remnants of Málaga’s industrial past when the city was a hub for innovation and production. These structures provide a surprising contrast to the modern seaside atmosphere and are a testament to the city’s rich history.

While in Huelin, consider stopping by Huelin Park, a charming green space where locals gather to relax and enjoy the outdoors. It’s a great spot to take a short break and soak in the authentic vibe of this lovely district.
Continuing along the Promenade, you’ll find numerous Chiringuitos (beachside eateries) where you can enjoy some espetos: freshly grilled sardines, a local delicacy perfect for a quick snack by the sea. The combination of the salty breeze and the taste of espetos is an essential part of the Málaga experience.

La Térmica - A Contemporary Cultural Center

Before reaching the museum, you’ll pass by La Térmica, a cultural center known for its dynamic exhibitions, concerts, and workshops. This contemporary space is a hub of artistic expression, with exhibitions of modern and emerging art, cultural events, and interactive workshops. Whether you’re interested in photography, painting, literature, or music, you’ll always find something interesting here. It also has a special program for children, La Térmica Mini, offering creative workshops, technology courses, and interactive activities like programming and video game design, making it an ideal stop for families.

If you enjoy creativity, La Térmica offers a wide range of workshops, from painting and sculpture to digital media and creative writing, many of them aimed at beginners. It also hosts film screenings, concerts, and cultural talks, so there’s always something new to discover. Check their schedule to see which events coincide with your visit.

What to Expect at the Automotive and Fashion Museum?

After this visit, just 4 minutes away, located in a former tobacco factory, the Automotive and Fashion Museum spans more than 6,000 square meters of exhibition space. Its collection includes more than 90 classic cars and over 200 fashion pieces, each with its own story.

Classic Cars: From luxurious Rolls-Royces to elegant Bugattis, you’ll find an impressive collection of vehicles dating from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, all meticulously restored.

Haute Couture: Discover pieces from iconic designers such as Chanel, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent. The collection spans decades of style and design evolution, creating a unique dialogue between fashion and automobiles.

Thematic Exhibitions: Each room has its own theme, such as Art Deco, Belle Époque, and Hollywood Glamour. These immersive exhibits transport you to different eras, celebrating creativity and craftsmanship.

Why Visit by Electric Bike?

Exploring these spaces by electric bike is not only eco-friendly, but also a great way to explore the city. The route takes you along the coast, past the bustling port and the relaxing Promenade. It is an easy and enjoyable journey, suitable for all fitness levels thanks to the electric assistance.
